About the Lab

The Autoimmune Genetics Laboratory is looking for a skilled and motivated postdoctoral fellow. This internationally recognized research group is embedded in the infrastructure of the VIB and KU Leuven and consists of three major research divisions: the tissue and disease team, the molecular Treg team and the primary immunodeficiency team that unite to understand the factors that influence disease outcome during immune dysregulation.

Job description

A position is available for highly motivated candidates with a background in beta cell biology.
The laboratory is looking for a skilled and ambitious team member with innovative thinking and a high degree of independence. The successful candidate will work on the biochemical and genetic pathway that influences the robustness of beta cells in the pancreas, continuing previous work in the lab (Dooley et al, Nature Genetics 2016, 48(5) p519).

Main duties and responsibilities:

The research will focus on the discovery of the molecular pathway influencing beta cells apoptosis. To this end, the candidate will develop and apply novel tools that will enable them to dissect those pathways.

This requires strong expertise in cell culture, protein chemistry and molecular biology. In particular, experience in any of the following techniques would be considered a plus: beta cell culture, lentivirus transduction, BioID or similar protein-protein interaction assays, CrispR.

Profile

Ideal candidates will exhibit:

  • At least two first author papers published and demonstrated written communication skills in English.
  • A background in beta cell biology preferentially with hands-on expertise in the above described skills.

We offer

Financial support is available for 4 years but the successful candidate is encouraged to obtain an independent fellowship (Marie-Curie, EMBO, or National funding organizations) during this time.

How to apply?

Motivated candidates are asked to apply online before 15 June 2018. Please use the VIB HR Application tool.

Additional requirements:

Please submit a full CV, a brief summary of research background and technical expertise. The coordinates of at least 2 references should be mentioned.
