The VIB-VUB Center for Structural Biology focusses on the structure and dynamics of macromolecular complexes in health and disease. Our multidisciplinary team of about 100 researchers is housed in new laboratory facilities and combines extensive expertise in structural biology (state of the art in-house cryo-EM, X-ray crystallography, NMR, SAXS, and atomic force microscopy), biophysics, enzymology and molecular biology.
At the VIB-VUB Center for Structural Biology (Vrije Universiteit Brussel / VIB) we are looking for a highly qualified and motivated postdoctoral researcher with a strong background in protein biochemistry and/or structural biology, to work on Nanobody-enabled studies of Parkinson’s disease-associated proteins.
Parkinson’s Disease (PD) is the second most common age-related neurodegenerative disease. While the majority of PD cases are considered to be sporadic or idiopathic, mutations in several genes have been associated with familial PD. Unraveling the working mechanism of the corresponding proteins can thus provide significant insights in the pathways leading to neurodegeneration. Our lab is currently involved in the study of the structure and function of several of these PD-associated proteins. In the current project, you will develop and characterize conformation-specific allosteric Nanobodies against target proteins involved in PD, as tools for structure determination and for drug design.
Required skills and experience:
- PhD in Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, Bio-engineering or equivalent
- Strong background in protein expression, purification and characterization
- Proficient in written and spoken English
- Strong organizational and interpersonal skills
- Experience in structural biology and/or antibody engineering
