The Kloosterman Lab studies the neural basis of information processing and  storage in the mammalian brain. We use a combination of neurophysiology,  cellular imaging, optogenetics and advanced (real-time) neural signal processing  in awake, behaving rodents. Our research focuses on the cellular activity  patterns during navigational task learning and sleep that underlie spatial  memory processing. Current projects look at the dynamically coordinated  hippocampal-cortical interactions that mediate offline rehearsals of past  experiences. Our aim is to understand how offline rehearsals drive the  acquisition, consolidation and execution of demanding behavioral tasks.

Profile

  • you have a degree in neuroscience, physics, engineering, computer science or mathematics
  • you are proficient in English and have good written and oral communication skills
  • you have strong quantitative and technical skills
  • you are fluent in at least one programming language (e.g. Python, C++)
  • preferably, you have research experience in systems neuroscience, cellular neurophysiology or computational neuroscience
  • you are self-motivated, critical, and independent minded
  • you are a team player who likes challenges 
  • you have a strong drive for scientific excellence and integrity
  • you are comfortable working with rodents
