A postdoctoral position is available in the VIB Proteomics Core (Dr. Francis Impens). As supporting units, the VIB Core Facilities have the ambition to continuously improve the local research environment and to offer research groups access to high-end infrastructure and expert staff to assist with the execution of technology-demanding, interdisciplinary projects. The VIB Proteomics Core (https://corefacilities.vib.be/pec); located at Ghent University, is a flagship Core Facility that provides contemporary mass spectrometry-based proteomics services.
Next to service activities, our facility runs a proteomics-centered research program to develop novel tools to investigate proteins and their modifications by mass spectrometry, thereby supporting interdisciplinary research at VIB and Ghent University. In a novel project, we aim to focus on the analysis of antigenic peptides. Although many aspects of the MHC presentation pathway are known in great detail, the rules for peptide selection remain largely unknown. In collaboration with research groups at the Ghent University Hospital we aim to develop robust pipelines for the LC-MS/MS identification of antigenic peptides presented on tumor cells and cells infected by microbial pathogens.
The ideal candidate holds a PhD in Immunology, Medicine, Biotechnology, Biochemistry, or related discipline, and has a strong interest in -omics technologies and data analysis, and excellent experimentalists skills. Previous experience with proteomics, protein purification, mass spectrometry and computational data analysis will be an advantage.
